the how
The “how” is the coaching process. The coach provides a safe, neutral space for clients to focus solely on their personal issues and guarantees confidentiality. Active listening and skilful questioning help clients arrive at their own solutions.
Once the goals have been established, they need to be broken down into manageable pieces. A coaching approach (loosely based on NLP questioning) could look like this:
1 |
Formulate goal |
Make it positive, specific and measurable |
2 |
Relevance |
Why is achieving your goal important to you? |
3 |
Indicators |
How will you know when your goal is achieved? |
4 |
Context |
When? Where? With whom? |
5 |
Impact |
How will it impact yourself and others? |
6 |
Obstacles |
What could prevent you from reaching this goal? |
7 |
Resources |
What resources do you have /need to reach your goal? |
8 |
Visualize |
Imagine you have reached your goal. |
9 |
Action |
Do it! Track your progress against your indicators |
You, as coachee, are responsible for your desired outcomes. I, as coach, am responsible for making the process as efficient as possible.
